FBCBNA participated in a Qigong and Tai Chi session on February 25, 2012. This segment was sponsored by the Wellness/Fitness Ministry of Brentwood Baptist Church, whose pastor is the Reverend Joe S. Ratliff. The instructor, Henderson J. Smith, Jr., Tai Chi master teacher and founder of Living Well Therapies, is certified by the National Qigong Association, and the Institute of Integral Qigong.

The class began with “Stretch Meditation,” to open the body’s flexibility and to focus mental attention. Graceful, slow motion “blocks” and defensive tactics followed the stretch meditation that reinforced balance. Two hours later, the class experienced a sense of renewed energy and stress release, which was not there before the session began. The class of over 20 participants included five FBCBNA members: Yvonne Olusi, Cynthia Hickman, Dr. Ahia Shabaaz, Myrtle Morrow, Lenell Malveaux and Joan Perry- Austin. Ms. Malveaux and Mrs. Perry-Austin are also members of the Wellness/Fitness Ministry. For more information: call (832) 595-1234 or visit the website www.livingwelltherapies.net.
